Solange, 2010-ongoing
a small series for my sister
Often people will look at your paintings, detect some sort of direction or theme, and then begin suggesting further avenues of exploration, like a little game that they have figured out and are now eager to play. This never leads to new imagery... however, from time to time something in a conversation will suddenly click and produce a whole new line of visual thinking.
The best person for this sort of thing is my sister, not particularly expert in art, but with an instinctive eye, a candor wrought by years of familiarity and a deep knowledge of how my mind works... she will mention something in passing, and the thing will be a turning point.
So this series is about, for and thanks to Solange, my beloved sis.
